INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team was back in Nicoson Hall Thursday night, but fell to longtime in-state rival USI 75-64 after the Screaming Eagles were able to pull away down the stretch. Despite shooting better from the field than USI, the difference came at the free throw line as USI shot 10 more free throws than the Hounds, putting their record at 9-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A big first quarter helped propel the Hounds early on. UIndy jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game, forcing USI to take their first timeout not even five minutes into the opening frame. The period was highlighted by freshman
Marissa Knobloch coming off the bench and nailing two triples late in the first to give her team the 15-8Â lead at the end of one. The second quarter started like the first one ended for UIndy, Knobloch buried yet another triple to begin the period to push the lead to 10. USI started going at the Greyhound defense, making three triples in the quarter including one just before time expired to cut the UIndy lead to 30-26 heading into the locker room.
Â
USI tied the game less than 30 seconds into the second half to spark their huge third quarter where they scored 29 points in the frame. USI's third period consisted of going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and making all nine of their free throw attempts. However, the Hounds shot 90% from the field in the quarter to trail 55-51 heading into the fourth. The Screaming Eagle offense continued to soar in the fourth quarter, shooting 12 free throws and making eight of them to seal the win, pushing their record to 7-3 and 3-1 in GLVC and handing the Hounds their third loss of the season.
