INDIANAPOLIS – In a recent announcement by the NCAA, the University of Indianapolis and the Indiana Sports Corp were named as hosts for a number of upcoming NCAA Division II Championships. The Circle City will be the site of the 2023 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships, the 2023 NCAA DII Women's Lacrosse Championships and the 2025 NCAA DII Winter National Championships Festival.
Â
The 2023 women's lacrosse championship, which include both the semifinal and final games, will be held on campus at Key Stadium, while swimming and diving nationals will be held downtown at the world-class IU Natatorium that same semester. Meanwhile, the 2025 DII winter festival, which will feature national championships in swimming & diving, indoor track & field and wrestling, will take place at multiple venues throughout the city.
Â
The NCAA's announcement was its largest ever regarding championship hosting, spanning 86 championships across a four-year cycle. Previously, selection announcements varied by sport. This process now gives the NCAA and host sites more time to plan each championship experience.
Â
Bidding for 86 of 90 NCAA championships began in August 2019 and more than 3,000 bid applications were ultimately submitted. Each sport committee, per division, selected the host sites it believed would provide the ultimate experience for the respective student-athletes, resulting in more than 450 total championship event sites being awarded.
