INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis Athletics Department ranked 12th nationally among NCAA Division II schools for community service during the 2025-26 academic year, based on both hours and impact. According to the volunteer-tracking app Helper Helper, the Greyhounds combined for 7,235 community service hours to the city of Indianapolis and its Southside communities over the course of the previous year.
In their first year participating in the NCAA-sponsored Helper Helper program, which measures community impact, the Greyhounds collectively volunteered with 37 different organizations and participated in 84 different service opportunities. The majority of hours were contributed towards civic and community working with children and youth.
"To finish 12th nationally in NCAA Division II community service in our first year participating speaks volumes about the character and commitment of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff," said UIndy Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
Kim Pate. "Contributing more than 7,200 hours across the greater Indianapolis area reflects our deep commitment to making a meaningful impact in the community we proudly call home."
Spearheading the effort was the UIndy softball team, whose average of 23 hours per student-athlete led all Greyhound athletic programs. UIndy wrestling ranked second at 18 hours per student-athlete while also topping all Division II wrestling programs in volunteer hours.
Joining wrestling in their respective sport's top 10 were UIndy men's swimming & diving (4th), women's swimming & diving (5th), men's lacrosse (5th), women's lacrosse (6th), football (7th), men's soccer (8th), women's tennis (9th) and softball (10th), while triathlon ranked 10th in the "wild card" list.
Additionally, five UIndy athletics programs have an active partnership with Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization that matches children facing serious illness or disability with college athletic teams across the country. Also, both UIndy tennis teams were recently honored with the Midwest Region's ITA Community Service Award for their commitment to service.
