Hounds Fall to Cardinals in Season Opener

INDIANAPOLIS - The Greyhounds dropped their season opener to William Jewell on Friday night in Nicoson Hall, the final score ending 63-58 in favor of the Cardinals. Taylor Drury led the Hounds in scoring with 14 pts in 31 minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds got off to a hot start in the first half, controlling the lead for 16 of the first 20 minutes in the game. Marissa Knobloch's pair of 3-pointers helped UIndy kick off an 11-point advantage within the first quarter of action, but the team would struggle to find the basket in the upcoming quarters.

The Hounds would finish the last three quarters shooting a combined 24 percent from the field, while also allowing 36 points in the paint for the game against the Cardinals. Sadie Hill's 10 rebounds and Mickey Sasson's six assists tried to keep UIndy toe-to-toe with William Jewell, but Kiara Bradley's jumper with 6:17 left in the game would start a lead for the Cardinals that would ride until the end.

The Greyhounds got off three late shots behind the arc to potentially throw the game into overtime, but missed all three within the last 30 seconds of the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-The Hounds' presence on the boards kept them in the game until the very end, out-rebounding William Jewell 45-41.
-The Greyhounds' 34 attempts from behind the arc is the highest program total since Feb. 21, 2015 at Bellarmine
-Sasson's efficiency rating of 18 led UIndy in the matchup, totaling 11 pts and 6 assists.

HOUND BYTES
Assistant Coach Chrissy Roberts on the team's attitude tonight...
"There was a lot of heart, and we competed with them. We're looking forward to what's to come. We have to stay locked in defensively and know their tendencies. We were knocking down shots early, but later when we weren't we did a great job attacking the rim, getting to the free-throw line, etc. We'll take several little things to clean up into Sunday, including breaking down our passing."

Assistant Coach Evan Dodd on the team's number of 3-point attempts...
"We can't settle as much on the arc. We hit some in the early game but we fell in love with it late an it cost us."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will look claim their first win of the season on Sunday against Truman. The matchup will take place in Nicoson Hall with tip off at 1 p.m. ET.
