Hounds' Slow Start Proves Too Much Against Truman

INDIANAPOLIS - The opening weekend of the UIndy women's basketball season continued with another home matchup on Sunday, this time against the Truman Bulldogs. The Hounds' slow start would prevent them from getting their first win of the season, falling to Truman on a final score of 76-68 in Nicoson Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both squads kicked off the match struggling to find a bucket, but after a quick Truman run, the Greyhounds went down 19-6 after the first quarter. The Hounds would eventually find their rhythm in the second quarter, pushing the score to a five-point deficit at the half on their 18-8 run in the last five minutes. Marissa Knobloch would be a key contributor from afar with two 3-pointers, while sophomore Lauren With proved to be a solid contributor in her eight points in the second quarter alone despite being in foul trouble.

Truman's Hannah Belanger would constantly keep the Bulldogs ahead throughout the game, sinking eight 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 34 points to become Bulldog since 2008 to hit for 30. The Greyhounds would finally get to the line in the final quarter, shooting 7-9 in the fourth compared to just three attempts in the first three quarters combined. Mickey Sasson would end the day with another solid all-around game, totaling 10 points, five rebounds. and dishing out a team-high 7 assists.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-The Greyhounds totaled 31 bench points in the game compared to Truman's eight.
-With's 16 points led the Hounds on the day. The Cal Baptist shot 6-for-10 from the field and added four rebounds.
-The Hounds' only lead came in the first 3:24 in the contest, where they would hold on for only three minutes compared to Truman's 33.
-Truman was tabbed by the league's coaches to win the GLVC Central Division this year.

HOUND BYTES
Assistant Coach Chrissy Roberts on the team's 31 personal fouls...
"We need to continue moving our feet and showing our hands. We gave up 17 points on the line tonight. If you cut that down by less than half, eight less makes would make the final score a tie ball game."

Assistant Coach Evan Dodd on the team's attitude coming out of the half...
"We came out being more aggressive to the rim, putting our foot back on the gas pedal. Our newcomers did a great job today, with Ilani Williams-Harris' ball-handling, [Lauren] With's ability of smart shooting and Sadie Hill does a great job with her aggression."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will look to take on two more teams this week, one on the road and one in Nicoson Hall. The Hounds will first take on the Lewis Flyers in Indianapolis on Thursday, that game tipping off at 5:30 p.m ET.
