Late Surge Propels Flyers Past Hounds

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's basketball team held their third home game of the season on Thursday, taking on the Lewis Flyers in a GLVC East matchup in Nicoson Hall. After trailing four points heading into the fourth quarter, the Flyers' (2-1, 2-1 GLVC) hung 32 points in the final period to claimed the win over the Greyhounds (0-3, 0-3) on a final score of 80-74.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds started off the contest on a 4-0 run, taking an aggressive start down under the basket to set the tone of the game. The Hounds' battle down low forced 13 personal fouls against Lewis, gaining 19 free throws in the first half alone, converting 13 of them. Senior Mickey Sasson had a career high on the free throw line in the half, converting eight of her 10 attempts. Sasson finished the game with a career-best 16 points on the night.

Lauren With came out on her first start as a Greyhound and had the best efficiency on the team, totally 14 points and a pair of steals on the day. Marissa Knobloch helped cut into the lead towards the end by hitting her last of three made 3-pointers with 10 seconds left, but Lewis sealed the game off their performance from the free throw line.

Lewis employed an aggressive presser defense, forcing six turnovers in the final quarter, part of 21 total turnovers from the Hounds in the game. Grace Hilber came off the bench and contributed 11 points in the final quarter of action, totaling 21 points in the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Greyhounds shot a season high from the field as a team, hitting 50 percent from the field and 43 percent from behind the arc.
- The team shot 25 free throws in the game and converting on 18 total, the most this season.
- Sadie Hill's seven rebounds led the Greyhounds, who overall out-rebounded the Flyers 35-29.
- Thursday marks the first time since February 2017 that the Greyhounds lost three games in a row by single digits.

HOUND BYTES
Assistant coach Chrissy Roberts' opinion on the Flyers' pressure…
"They made us uncomfortable, for sure. We shut down Kathryn Schmidt (their leading scorer), but they were able to band together and find their teammates for good shots and opportunities. We made it to the free throw line and knocked down several of them, our turnovers just really killed our momentum.

Assistant coach Evan Dodd on the Greyhounds' execution of their game plan...
"I thought Mickey Sasson did a great job at the free throw line and attacking and we did a good of going downhill, but we got away form that in the second half in our execution."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will compete in their first road matchup of the season on Saturday, taking on the McKendree Bearcats in Lebanon, Ill. That game will tip off at 2 p.m. ET.
