INDIANAPOLIS –
The UIndy men's basketball team (0-3, 0-3 GLVC) suffered its third straight loss to open the season on Tuesday evening, dropping a 77-64 final to the visiting Lewis Flyers (2-1, 2-1) at Nicoson Hall.
Â
Cory Miller Jr. led the Hounds with 22 points, while also grabbing 12 boards to record his first career double-double.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dee Montgomery started the scoring for the second time this season with a 3-pointer, but it was the Flyers who grew a 38-28 lead late in the first half. The Hounds, however, responded with a 6-0 run in the final two minutes, including a driving layup from
Dravon Clayborn to cut the deficit to four at halftime.
Â
Lewis used a 15-0 run early in the second half to lead 57-39 before a pair of free throws from Montgomery sparked a Greyhound 19-4 stretch to get back within six. The Flyers quickly stretched their lead back to double figures, despite scoring runs from Miller Jr. and Montgomery.
Â
Miller Jr. scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half, including the final six Hound tallies of the contest. Montgomery, who drilled six 3-pointers in the loss, finished with 21 points and a pair of steals.

HOUND BYTES
Assistant coach Mike Burris on the key factor...
"We knew it was going to be a game of toughness. We talked about rebounding as the most important key to win tonight, and obviously you look at the stats and it was 48-30. When shots aren't falling, sometimes things don't go well for you on the other side of the basketball, and I think that was evident tonight. They made shots, they rebounded the ball, had a little bit more energy on the offensive end because of their rebounding and physicality. But we're a good basketball team. We're still growing and learning; we'll continue to get better."
Burris on what to improve before Sunday's game against USI...
"Rebounding. USI's big; they got the two big guys in there. They rebound the ball and they're really talented. Obviously it's a big game for a lot of people, but it's a big game because it's our next game. No matter who we're playing, it's always the biggest game on the schedule because it's our next game. We just have to continue to work and improve and trust one another and try and find that win column. We're going to be okay."
