INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy men's and women's tennis programs swept the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors of the 2020 season, with
Anna Novikova and
Nikolaj Talimaa earning the awards, announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Novikova, a sophomore, has now earned the GLVC Player of the Week honor twice in her career, after she was also honored March 6 of last season. The sophomore has opened the season 4-0 on both the singles and doubles courts for the Greyhounds, helping #4 UIndy to a 4-0 start on the young spring season, including two wins against Division I opponents and another two against ranked and Division II opposition. Novikova's doubles partner,
Nikol Alekseeva, was the last to earn a GLVC Player of the week honor for the women's squad, April 2 of last season.
Talimaa, who just came to UIndy at the semester, has also helped the men's tennis team to an undefeated start to the season, with the #12 Greyhounds boasting a 5-0 record thus far. The freshman is 4-0 playing in the No. 4 and No. 6 singles spots, and is 2-2 on the doubles courts at No. 3 with
Dominik Koenig. The GLVC Player of the Week honor is the first of Talimaa's young career, with the last male Greyhound to earn the nod being
Nils Hoffacker April 9 of last season.Â
Both the men's and women's tennis teams are on the road this weekend in St. Louis, where they will face off with Washington University Saturday evening before playing Southwest Baptist Sunday afternoon.Â
