Hounds Pull Away in Second Half for 20th Win

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Trevor Lakes drilled seven 3-pointers and Jacob Polakovich went for 14 points and an equal amount of boards for the No. 19 UIndy men's basketball (20-5, 12-5 GLVC) against Maryville University (5-19, 1-16 GLVC) on Thursday night, as the Greyhounds earned their 20th win of the season.

UIndy hits the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign, while posting four consecutive 12-win totals in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds shot 53.9 percent in the first half, but it was 12 turnovers that kept the Saints in the game at halftime. Lakes hit six 3-pointers before the break, placing himself fifth all-time in program history in total makes from beyond the arc. Polakovich controlled the paint in the opening 20 minutes, finishing with eight points and nine boards at half, as the Greyhounds led the Saints, 37-26.

UIndy limited its give-aways in the second half, as the Greyhounds held on to their double-digit advantage. Cory Miller Jr. scored 12 of his 17 points after the break, while Polakovich netted six more points and five extra rebounds. Kendrick Tchoua gave the Greyhounds a 16-point lead on two occasions, as the rookie finished with nine tallies and four boards.

- King notched his 500th-career helper with seven minutes into the second half on a Lakes' jumper, becoming just the second Greyhound ever to reach the milestone.
- Lakes finished with seven 3-pointers in the win, as the junior now has 218 in his career. The Lebanon, Ind., native ranks fifth all-time behind former teammate Eric Davidson.
- Polakovich's 14 rebounds is a new career-best for the sophomore, six of which were on the offensive end.
- Miller Jr. added four rebounds and three steals to his 17-point effort.

 HOUND BYTES
Head coach Stan Gouard
"I missed that number," Gouard said referring the amount of wins. "We got a chance to put it together and we did, but now we have to stay focused on our other team goals down the stretch.

"We held Owen Long to three points below his average and one of six from 3-point range. All the credit goes to the scout and Cory, who embraced the role of defending him this week.

"JP crashed the glass like a man tonight. We needed it down the stretch. Kendrick also scored the ball late in the game for us, and did a good job tonight in a physical game."

UP NEXT
UIndy heads to Rolla, Mo., for a battle with Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds lead the all-time series against the Miners, 11-2.
