INDIANAPOLIS- Behind top 10 rankings from
Ana Abduljelil and
Dawson Combest, the UIndy wrestling team moved into the Top 25, coming in at #24 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II National Rankings, released Friday.
Abduljelil jumped up from his previous #9 ranking to the #5 spot at 125. The two-time National Qualifier boasts a record of 13-7, and is 7-1 at 125 with his lone loss coming to now-#1 Marcus Povlick of McKendree. Combest moved from #11 to #9 spot in the last 157 ranking. The GLVC Freshman of the Year is currently 19-5, and has only lost twice in the 2020 calendar year. A win over then-#9 Nate Smalling of McKendree bumped Combest up the 157 rankings, and also iced his spot on the All-GLVC First Team.
As a team the Greyhounds moved from their receiving votes spot in the previous rankings to #24. St. Cloud State held the #1 spot, with GLVC-foe McKendree staying at #2. Pitt.-Johnstown moved into the #3 spot, with Notre Dame and Central Oklahoma rounding out NCAA Division II's top five teams.
The postseason awaits for the Greyhounds, as #24 UIndy will host the 10 teams that make up Super Region 3 Saturday, Feb. 29 in Nicoson Hall. The top three finishers in each weight class then advance to the 2020 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D., March 13-14.
