INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 12 UIndy women's lacrosse team (2-0) kicked off is home slate with a decisive 21-4 win against Lee University (2-1) Friday afternoon, routing the visiting Flames at Key Stadium.
The Hounds scored 20 or more goals on 14 occasions a season ago.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds scored on the game's opening possession and didn't look back.
Abigail Lagos found the back of the cage just 30 seconds in, while the Hounds needed less than 10 minutes to build a 10-goal lead and thus start a running clock. UIndy would go on to hold the Flames scoreless for the entire first half, building a 16-0 advantage at the break.
Nine Greyhounds finished the day with at least one point, led by a career-high 10 points from sophomore-captain Lagos. The Windham, N.H., product also topped the Hounds in goals (5), assists (5) and shots (8).
Senior
Riley McClure led a defense that forced 18 Lee turnovers, with
Kara Antonucci causing three. Each of McClure and fellow captain
Peyton Romig secured eight draws from the circle.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lagos' 10 points were good for just the eighth double-digit point performance in the program's five-year history.
- McClure also had a team-high six ground balls, while Antonucci chipped in three.
- Rookie
Christina Sato handed out three helpers in the win.
- Romig and
Lauryn Hardoy each scored four goals, each on four shots.
- Sophomore keeper
Cassidy King made three saves in nearly 37 minutes between the pipes.
