EDMOND, Okla. – After dropping a close matchup on Friday at round one of the ITA Indoor Championships, the Greyhounds gained the opportunity to rebound in a Saturday match versus the No. 9 University of Central Oklahoma. The No. 4 UIndy women's tennis team regained their momentum, winning on a final score of 4-2 to move to the fifth-place game on Sunday.
The doubles matches kicked off in the Greyhounds' favor, where
Alina Kislitskaya and
Maja Pindelska took the first win on the day against the No. 7-ranked team of Paola Landin and Nikki Boyar 6-2. Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Isabelle Dunlap were able to best the No. 3 team of
Nikol Alekseeva and
Anna Novikova, claiming the victory on a 6-3 victory. The Greyhounds claimed the doubles point off the backs of
Anna Valiaeva and
Maria Solnyshkina, securing the second doubles win needed on a final score of 6-4 against Lotte Lesscher Y Post and Mariona Franco Martin.
The Bronchos were able to regain the momentum during the singles matches, claiming the first two points during the segment. Boyer took down Pindelska off a 6-4, 6-3 score, and Lesscher Y Post claimed the victory over Solnyshkina 6-4, 6-3 as well. Valiaeva was able to put Central Oklahoma to a stop by taking over her match, dominating in a 7-6, 6-1 set over Franco Martin. UIndy claimed the game-winning point from No. 20 Kislitskaya, clearing an early deficit from Landin to final at 2-6, 6-0, 6-1. The match between No. 2 Alekseeva and No. 26 Abidullina went unfinished, ending on a score of 6-7, 7-5, 1-0 in favor of Alekseeva.
The Greyhounds will get one more day of action at the ITA Indoor Championships, next playing in the fifth-place match on Sunday. They'll face-off against the No. 6 team in Saint Leo, kicking off at 12 p.m. ET.
