The UIndy men's basketball team looks to get back in the dub column this coming weekend, traveling west to the Kansas City, Mo. area for a pair of GLVC contests against Rockhurst and William Jewell. 

The Greyhounds are now 15-5 on the season, and are receiving votes in the latest NABC national coaches poll.

ABOUT ROCKHURST
The Hawks find themselves just ahead of the Greyhounds in the GLVC standings, sitting in sixth place with a 13-7 overall record, including a 9-3 mark inside league action. Rockhurst is 8-2 at home this season, with a 5-1 record at Mason-Halpin Field House against conference foes. 

Most recently, the Hawks needed overtime to knock off Quincy on Saturday, grinding out the road win in a 70-68 defensive battle. 

Curtis Lewis ranks seventh in the GLVC with 17.3 ppg, while Quinton Curry places fourth with 7.7 rpg and 14th at 15.1 ppg. Chris Hamil leads the team with a 37.6 percent mark from 3-point range, hitting 56 of 149 attempts from deep this season. 

Head coach Drew Diener is in his fifth season at Rockhurst, and has accumulated a 70-61 record while with the Hawks.

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL
The Cardinals have had a tough time as of late, losing seven of their last nine contests to drop to 8-12 this season and 3-9 in GLVC play. William Jewell's three league wins have come at the expense of Quincy, Maryville and Missouri S&T, while the Cardinals also picked up non-conference victories over Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma and Purdue Northwest.

WJC dropped each of its two conference contests last weekend, falling on the road at Quincy and Truman. 

Eysan Wiley has been one of the best players in the GLVC this season, topping the league in rebounding (8.7 boards) and eighth in scoring (16.8 points). The junior has recorded five 20-point games, totaling a season-best 29 against Purdue Northwest. Nick Bradley leads the Cardinals with 72 assists.

Head coach Chris McCabe is in his first season at WJC after spending the previous nine years at Liberty North High School.

LORDS OF KC
UIndy has built an 8-2 record in Kansas City against the GLVC rivals, including an 8-1 road mark under head coach Stan Gouard. The Greyhounds have swept four road trips out west, most recently pulling out close wins in February 2018. 

Overall, UIndy leads the all-time series over Rockhurst, 9-5, while remaining unblemished against William Jewell, 8-0.

OVERTIME SADNESS
After picking up a road win at Lewis last Thursday, the Greyhounds led by three points with under 10 seconds left at Illinois Springfield just two days later. It was then UIS sharp-shooter Alonso Meana drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key and send the game into overtime knotted at 78 apiece. 

The Prairie Stars capped off the season sweep of the Greyhounds in the extra session, scoring the final four points from the charity stripe to escape with an 89-86 victory. Trevor Lakes (22) and Cory Miller Jr. (21) led UIndy in scoring.

NO-ILL WILL
Senior Jimmy King willed the Greyhounds to victory last Thursday at Lewis, recording a season-high 24 points against the Flyers with seven rebounds and four assists. The Roncalli product was the lone UIndy player to shoot better than 50 percent from the floor - Miller Jr. was three for six from the field - as King drilled eight of his 13 attempts.

PLAYING THE PERCENTAGES
Sophomore big man Jacob Polakovich tops the GLVC in field-goal percentage with a 69.5 mark, with all of his tallies coming inside the paint or free-throw line. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native is averaging 8.0 ppg in 18.6 minutes of action.

Trevor Lakes ranks seventh among GLVC shooters with a 38.4 percent mark from 3-point range, while Cory Miller Jr. unofficially tops the list at 52.5 percent (21 of 40).

WE GROW BASKETBALL HERE
On March 25, 2020, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame will announced its annual induction class. UIndy hall of famer and basketball great Dick Nyers, a 1952 graduate of Manual High School, will become the fourth Greyhound inducted into the prestigious shrine. 

Nyers' name is scattered across the program record book, most prominently featured as the seventh leading scorer with 1,754 career points as a Greyhound. Among other categories, Nyers ranks second all-time in free-throw attempts, second in free throws made and 11th in field goals made. The Manual alum also holds the single-season free throws made record with 180 successful attempts from the charity stripe.
