MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The 12th-ranked University of Indianapolis softball team (1-1) opened its 2020 season on Saturday, trading wins at Montevallo (4-2) to give Head Coach
Melissa Frost her 600th win at UIndy. Already the program's all-time winningest coach, Frost is now 600-248-1 in 15-plus seasons at UIndy and 674-304-1 overall as an NCAA head coach.

GAME 1 | UIndy 2, UM 1
The Greyhounds jumped on their hosts early with single runs in both the first and second inning, with RBI-machine
Gianni Iannantone driving in both tallies. The junior slugger coaxed a bases-loaded walk in the opening frame and later found the right-center gap with an RBI double.
Â
The Falcons got on the board in the fifth when two singles and two walks plated a run and chased starter
Hallie Waters. Senior
Lauren Honkomp came on in relief to get the final out of a pressure situation and ultimately earn the save with 2 1/3 hitless innings.
Â
Brooke Montgomery and
Hanna Burris accounted for the Hounds' two runs, while freshman
Lucy Garrett earned a single and a walk in her collegiate debut.

GAME 2 | UM 10, UIndy 9
With Honkomp returning to the circle as the game-two starter, Montevallo exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first. Junior Carlee Mullinax highlighted the frame with a three-run home run to left field.
Â
UIndy chipped away at the margin with extra-base hits from Garrett,
Emily O'Connor and
Sydnie Foster in the second before an Iannantone sac fly and a Garrett single tied it up at 5-5 in the third.
Â
UM finally took the lead for good, however, with a four-run outburst in the sixth inning to go ahead 10-8. UIndy loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh, putting the tying run in scoring position. Freshman
Tara Williams would earned her first career RBI with a sacrifice fly to right before the Falcons ended the game to escape with a split.
Garrett finished 4-for-4 with two runs and three ribbies in the capper, while
Taylor Danielson scored twice and O'Connor and Williams each worked two walks apiece. Meanwhile, Waters (1-1) earned the pitching decision in both games.
