MONTEVALLO, Ala. – After splitting the season-opening doubleheader at Montevallo yesterday, the 12th-ranked UIndy softball team (2-1) took the rubber match in convincing fashion, cruising past the past the host Falcons (4-3) by a score of 8-1. The Greyhounds combined for four extra-base hits, including a two-run home run from both
Taylor Danielson and
Haylie Foster.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds jumped out to an early lead on Danielson's homer in the second and didn't look back. Four more runs crossed in the third inning, with RBI doubles coming from
Gianni Iannantone and
Emily O'Connor. Foster piled on with her first bomb of the season in the fifth: a two-run shot to left field.
Â
Meanwhile,
Hallie Waters (2-0) went the distance in the circle, tossing a three-hitter and striking out four. The Falcons' lone run came on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth.
