Hounds Sweep G-MAC Foes with Dominant Pitching

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The No. 12 UIndy softball team (4-1) aced its way to a sweep of a pair of G-MAC rivals on Saturday on the campus of Kentucky Wesleyan College, knocking off the host Panthers (0-5) before one-hitting the Tiffin Dragons (1-1) in the night cap.

GAME 1 | UIndy 3, KWC 1
After an RBI groundout in the second gave the Panthers the early lead, UIndy tied it up in the fifth with some small ball. Junior Sydnie Foster coaxed a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a Brooke Montgomery sacrifice and came around on a Lucy Garrett single.

Later, Taylor Danielson sparked the decisive rally with a leadoff double in the sixth. Two UIndy singles would follow, including Foster's clean hit to right that plated Danielson with what proved to be the game winner.

UIndy tacked on an insurance run in the when the freshman duo of Garrett (walk) and Emily O'Connor (double) teamed up for the final tally of the game.

In the circle, Hallie Waters moved to 3-0 on the young season. She struck out three and walked only one in her complete-game effort. She finished the game with five consecutive scoreless frames, with a bunt single accounting for the only KWC base runner in that span.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- KWC starter Evyn Hendrickson also went the distance, giving up nine hits, three walks and three earned (all earned).
- Foster, Montgomery and Garrett each had two hits in the opener, with doubles from Danielson and O'Connor good for the team's only extra-base hits.
- Garrett added two walks to reach base in all four plate appearances.

GAME 2 | UIndy 10, Tiffin 0
It was all Greyhounds under the lights, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings to finish it off in five. O'Connor began the scoring in the opening frame, driving in a ribbie with her second double of the day. Senior hurler Lauren Honkomp tossed three shutout frames, inducing six groundouts before Amy Kaniewski wrapped up the game in the circle.

It was the second inning that gave Undy full control. Maddy Stout sent one out over the left-center fence for her first-career homer with nobody out in the second, scoring Haylie Foster. Then the flood gates opened. Hanna Burris singled home S. Foster, as Garrett tripled to score Montgomery and the aforementioned Burris to make it 7-0. Gianni Iannantone kept the train moving moments later, drilling her first dinger of the season.

For good measure, Kamrie Foster doubled to score Montgomery in the third before Kaniewski took over to close out the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- O'Connor and Stout each recorded two-hit games against the Dragons' pitching.
- Honkomp earned her first win of the season, striking out one in three innings.
- Iannantone, the 2019 GLVC ribbie leader, added two to her current total and now has seven as a junior.
