Hounds Up Win Streak With Two Wins Tuesday

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The No. 16 UIndy softball team (12-5) notched a pair of victories at THE Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla., Tuesday. The Greyhounds racked up a combined     20 runs in wins against Fairmont State and in-region Malone.

GAME 1
| UIndy 8, FSU 0 (6 inn.)
Pitchers Hallie Waters and Amy Kaniewski combined for a one-hit shutout, as the Hounds run-ruled the Falcons in six innings. Fairmont State could not muster a base runner until a single in the fourth inning. Waters (7-2) would get the win with five scoreless, while Kaniewski finished off the Falcons with a 1-2-3 sixth.

Emily O'Connor compiled seven total bases with a homer and a triple at the plate. Lucy Garrett amassed two runs and two RBIs while Brooke Montgomery delivered an RBI double in the sixth.

GAME 2 | UIndy 12, Malone 1
O'Connor stayed hot to open the capper, sending a two-run dinger over the center field fence in the bottom of the first. UIndy blew it open with a five-run rally in the fourth, fueled by extra-base hits from Montgomery (2B), Hanna Burris (3B) and Sydnie Foster (2B).

With the game already out of reach, the Hounds piled on with five more runs in the seventh. Nine batters came to the plate in the frame, with six Hounds recording a hit, including a pinch-hit double from freshman Tara Williams.

Starter Lauren Honkomp (4-2) scattered five hits and allowed just one run in six innings. Audrey Sizemore came on in relief in the seventh, shutting down the Pioneers in her first career appearance.
