BELMONT, N.C. – The No. 14 UIndy men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Wednesday afternoon, but the fourth-ranked Belmont Abbey Crusaders ran away from the visiting Hounds in the second half to win, 15-6.
Â
Junior keeper
Austin Barnett made 14 saves in the loss.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Scores from
Matt Schoeneck and
Parker Johnson quickly gave the Greyhounds a 2-0 advantage through 10 minutes of action, as UIndy looked to make it two straight wins down at Belmont Abbey after knocking off the Crusaders in last season's national quarterfinal contest.
Â
However, the hosts rattled off four of the next five goals before Zickel tied it at four at the 5:17 mark of the second quarter.
Â
UIndy would never recover from Belmont Abbey's late momentum boost, as it surrendered 11 of the final 13 goals of the contest.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Johnson, along with
Kansai Garey, led the team with two goals apiece.
- Barnett faced 42 Crusader shots, ultimately stopping 14 of the 29 that made it on frame.
