GENEVA, Ohio – The NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships lasted just a day and a half before the NCAA cancelled the meet Thursday afternoon amid
COVID-19 concerns. However, the Greyhounds racked up several All-American performances on Wednesday night. Ending day one with 11 All-American performances, the women's point total of 65 was good for fourth place, while the men's 56 points put them in sixth place.
The Greyhounds achieved two runner-up finishes on Wednesday – one on the board and one in the lanes. The men crushed the former UIndy record in the men's 200 medley relay, dropping it by 1.25 seconds for second place. The squad consisted of
Jeron Thompson,
Jan Zuchowicz,
Kael Yorke and
Victor Antonon cemented the new mark of 1:25.80.
Diver
Cassie Kury proved to be one of the top competitors in Division II, pushing up to second overall in the field on women's 3-meter to earn the second-place trophy. Kury's point total reached 445.95 as she matched the highest-ever finish at Nationals by a UIndy women's diver.
Krystal Caylor was the highest-finishing individual swimmer that came out of day one for the Greyhounds, dropping her prelim time by .64 seconds to finish fourth overall in the women's 200 IM.
Cody Liske put the men on the board by edging out the seventh-place finisher by .26 seconds, claiming a sixth-place All-America honor in the men's 1000 free with his 9:09.00 finish.
The women's 200 medley relay was the final event on Wednesday that the UIndy teams earned an All-American honor in, breaking their own UIndy record in the process. The seventh-place team of
Edda Skoric,
Mariia Rezhylo,
Darian Murray and
Leticia Vaselli powered through to a 1:41.39 finish in the event.
"As soon as I jumped in [during the relay], I knew the importance of my leg of the race," recounted Antonon after the men's 200 medley relay, "You never know how many teams are fighting with you, so I just stayed focused on my lane and remembered what we've been working for all year."
