Women's Hoops Sees Season End in GLVC Quarterfinal

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The sixth-seeded UIndy women's basketball team took the floor at the Vadalabene Center Friday afternoon for their GLVC quarterfinal matchup against the Lewis Flyers looking to wreak havoc. However, the Flyers dominated the middle quarters to end the Greyhounds' season with a 63-50 loss.

Senior guard Laura Thomas was honored prior to the start of Friday's game for being named to the All-GLVC First Team, while junior McKenzy Telfair was also recognized by the conference after being voted All-GLVC Third Team earlier this week.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis jumped out to a 6-0 lead to open the game forcing the Greyhounds to burn an early timeout. The Flyers increased their lead to a 10-2 advantage before the UIndy offense came alive with an 11-0 run of their own including seven-consecutive points from Emma Benoit. Knotted at 15 apiece after one quarter, Lewis stormed back in the next 10 minutes to hold the Hounds to 30 percent shooting from the field as they outscored UIndy 16-6 in the frame to take a 31-21 lead into the break.

Lewis put the exclamation mark on the win in the second half, clamping down on defense against the Greyhounds. The Greyhounds got some contributions from their reserves late in the game, including four points frm Taylor Drury.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Thomas led the Hounds with 12 points, adding three assists and a pair of steals.
- Emma Benoit finished with 11 points and seven boards, the seventh time this season she has recorded those numbers.
- Sophomore Mya Scheidt came off the bench to score five points, setting a new career-high.
- Marissa Knobloch was responsible for two or UIndy's three makes from beyond the arc Friday afternoon. The freshman sank six triples against the Flyers this season.

MORE NOTES
Friday marked Greyhounds' first appearance in the conference tournament since 2016-17 ...  despite the loss, the Hounds own a 22-16 record all-time in the GLVC tournament ... UIndy will graduate Thomas, along with Claire Carlton and the 2018-19 All-GLVC Third-Teamer Benoit.
