Hounds Earn Top Seed, Hosting Honors for NCAA Regional

INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time since 1997, the UIndy men's basketball team is hosting an NCAA Regional tournament.

COVID-19 Update Regarding DII Men's Basketball Midwest Regional

The Greyhounds earned the Midwest Region's top seed on Sunday evening with a 24-6 overall record, including a 22-6 mark inside regional play. Among those victories are fellow NCAA tournament programs, such as Truman (No. 2), Bellarmine (No. 5) and Southern Indiana twice (No. 6).

UIndy advanced to six straight NCAA tournaments from 2010-16, reaching the regional final against Bellarmine at the end of the 2014-15 campaign. The Hounds are just two wins from matching the program record of 26 for a single season.

Eighth-seeded and Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) champion Walsh will battle the Greyhounds at Nicoson Hall on Saturday, Mar. 14, at 5 p.m.

Truman and Missouri-St. Louis, both of which shared the GLVC regular-season crown, are seeded second and third, respectively. Southern Indiana knocked off Bellarmine in a GLVC quarterfinal on Friday evening to solidify its spot in the regional. The Screaming Eagles advanced to the national semifinal just a season ago. Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) members Michigan Tech (4) and Ferris State (7) rounded out the eight-team field.

The NCAA DII national tournament is comprised of64 teams from eight regions. The winners of each region – to be determined on Tuesday, Mar. 17 – will be re-seeded prior to the Elite Eight in Evansville, Ind.
