Corsaro Inks First Four Recruits as Head Coach

INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy men's hoops head coach Paul Corsaro announced the addition of four players to the program on Wednesday, his first group since being selected to lead the Hounds back on April 23.

"What excites me most of this initial signee class is all four fit the criteria of what UIndy seeks," said Corsaro.  "We look for young men of great character who care about academics and come from winning programs."

Murray BecherMurray Becher is the first of three Indiana natives joining the Greyhounds next season, graduating from Heritage Hills High School as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,703 career points. An IBCA All-State selection this past season, Becher averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a senior.

"One thing I love about Murray is his competitiveness and how he goes about his business on and off the court," Corsaro mentioned. "He has a high IQ, can shoot the basketball and is a very versatile perimeter player."

The Dale, Ind., native also holds the Patriots' record for field goals made (663) and free throws made (282), and earned recognition in Hoosier Basketball Magazine as a top-60 senior in the state. As a junior in 2018-19, Becher was named an Indiana Junior All-Star after averaging 20.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Brother of UIndy alum, Alex, Aaron Etherington enters this upcoming winter with four years of eligibility after redshirting his freshman season at Division I Toledo. Ranked ninth in the state of Indiana byAaron Etherington PrepHoops.com coming out of nearby Hamilton Southeastern High School, Etherington averaged 13.3 points and 4.5 rebounds as a senior in 2018-19.

"Aaron was my first commit as a head coach, and that's really neat considering I recruited his brother as an assistant," noted Corsaro. " He's excited. He was a great high school player and had a ton of DI offers. His versatility will be great for the team.

"He's fully aware of the expectations and history of this program," Corsaro added.

Etherington proved to be a legitimate deep threat as well during his prep career, drilling 37.6 percent (41 of 109) from 3-point range as a senior. The 6-7 stretch forward was named to the 2018 IndyStar Boys Basketball Super Team after his senior campaign, which was highlighted by 18 points and four rebounds in the sectional title game against top-ranked Carmel.

Sean PeetersSean Peeters is another future Hound that tops his high school's all-time scoring list, as he tallied 1,130 points in three seasons at Assumption in Davenport, Iowa. An All-State first teamer a senior, Peeters averaged 23.6 points and 8.4 rebounds this past winter.

"Sean is an elite athlete, with his jumping ability and physical strength," remarked Corsaro. "He comes from a great family and knows GLVC play, since his brother plays at Truman. He played with fall signee Matt Ambrose on the same AAU team, and provides versatile play, which will make him a mismatch on the floor."

Peeters led the Knights to a 19-5 record, while shooting 60 percent from the floor. The 6-4 lefty set a school record for most points in a season, while also maintaining excellence in the classroom with National Honor Society distinction and Academic All-State accolades.

After spending his freshman campaign at GLVC rival McKendree University, Jakobie Robinson returns home to the Circle City with three years of eligibility remaining. The Indy native earned GLVC All-Freshman Team honors after averaging 7.4 points and 5.6 rebounds in 28 games last season for the Bearcats.

"He made a big impact during conference play for McKendree this past season," said Corsaro of Robinson. "To get someone in our program good enough to be a key contributor on a good team means we'reJakobie Robinson getting a heck of a player.

"I love getting kids in our backyard. He's extremely versatile and could play any position on the floor due to his athleticism and length."

Affectionately known as "Kobie", the 6-7 forward competed as a prep at local Warren Central High School with fellow Greyhound Jesse Bingham, where they claimed the Indiana Class 4A state title in 2018. Robinson then went on to McKendree, leading the Bearcats in blocks and steals and ranking second in rebounds.

Corsaro concluded: "All were very accomplished at their respective schools prior to UIndy, in terms of team success and individual accolades. The two common characteristics between all four are their toughness and versatility. I want guys who can play multiple positions and can bring a variety of skill sets to our basketball program."

These four join Ambrose, who signed with UIndy in the fall. The 2020-21 roster currently sits at 12 members, with Corsaro aiming to reach 16 by summer's end.
