BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Facing the likes of Western Kentucky, Southern Illinois and host Alabama-Birmingham, the UIndy women's golf team overcame a five-stroke deficit in the third and final round of the Hoover Invitational, held at the Hoover Country Club in Birmingham, Ala., Monday and Tuesday. Behind yet another individual medal performance from
Pilar Echeverria, the Greyhounds fired a three-under 285 team score in the final round, passing and pulling away from an otherwise all-DI field.
Echeverria (71-72-70) finished at -3 for the tournament to mark her 17th career tournament victory and add to her own program record.
Hunter Nugent (+2) and
Cailyn Henderson (+3) also notched top-10 performances, placing seventh and tied for eighth, respectively. Nugent highlighted her tournament with a collegiate-low 68 Tuesday that included three birdies and an eagle in the final 10 holes.
Senior
Anna Kramer (72-74-78) shared 20th among the 64 competitors, while junior
Elyse Stasil (75-82-76) tied for 40th along with individual
Katelyn Skinner (78-79-76).
