ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - After a tough loss in Nicoson for the UIndy women's basketball team on Thursday night, the Greyhounds looked to bounce back on Saturday with a road trip at Lewis. The defensive pressure from Lewis (8-4, 8-4 GLVC) forced a season-high 26 turnovers for the victory over the Greyhounds (4-6, 4-6) on a final score of 73-64.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy started off strong against the Flyers, producing a seven-point lead with just 90 seconds remaining in the first half of the contest (34-27). The Greyhounds out-shot Lewis in the game with a 45 percent accuracy on the floor compared to the Flyers' 44 percent, including almost a 58 percent conversion rate in the second and third quarters combined.
Taylor Drury led all UIndy scorers with 16 points off five of 11 shooting, including hitting four of five free throws.Â
Despite the lower shooting percentage, Lewis was able to prevail in the game by having at least 26 more opportunities through turnovers that translated to 10 more shots than the Greyhounds. Out of the 26 turnovers, only nine of them were recorded as steals for the Flyers. Jenna Badali had three steals of her own, while also giving the Greyhounds' issues on offense by taking several charges in the second half.Â
The Flyers' 40-30 scoring run in the second half was too much for the Hounds to come back from, including a 23-point performance in the third quarter. Kaitlyn Williams led all Flyers with 16 points, including a pair of two 3-pointers. The Greyhounds shot just 38 percent in the final quarter of action, including converting only one of their six 3-point attempts.
