INDIANAPOLIS - Diving is a sport that can only be described by one word: majestic.
On Saturday afternoon, the sounds of a bouncing dive board and the small splash of water fill the halls leading into the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center pool. Â
Head Coach
Dave McKown watches as his team of divers warmup for their match against GLVC-rival Lindenwood. Each individual movement matters, from the tuck of the core to the point of the toes. This is a sport that requires major focus and intensity, all tied together with grace.
"Smaller building blocks make up each dive," said McKown. "Simple to difficult skills and drilled pieced together to form what you see from takeoff to entry."
The Greyhounds finished the meet by putting up high numbers and even reaching a national qualifying score.
HIGHLIGHTS
Sophomore
Mikaela Starr won the 3M with a score of 235.20. The score was enough to qualify her for Nationals. Starr also came in second for the 1-meter with a score of 255.59.
The UIndy men racked up a first, second and third in both the 1M and the 3M. Sophomore
Cade Hammond took the gold for the 1M with a score of 319.26, while sophomore
Jason Lenzo placed first in the 3M.
"Lindenwood brought some good competition," McKown said. "We'll see them again soon at conference."
