Hounds Top Competition in Epic Early-Season Meet

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The UIndy swimming & diving teams topped a star-studded field at the UIndy Invitational Saturday and Sunday, held both on campus at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center and in nearby Greenwood, Ind., at the Center Grove Aquatics Center. At a meet that featured a combined nine top-eight teams from last spring's NCAA DII Championships, senior Johanna Buys set a high-profile individual record while leading the women's 200 free relay squad to a strong B-cut time.

Buys highlighted the meet with a lightning-fast first leg of the 200 FR. The Lusaka, Zambia native broke her own UIndy 50 free record with a time of 22.52  – which would have won the event national championship last year. She was joined in the relay by Leticia Vaselli, Julia Magierowska and Krystal Caylor, as the quartet notched an NCAA provisional mark of 1:32.36.

Buys continued her dominant weekend by picking up three more first-place finishes. She tallied the top time in the 50 free (23.09), 100 fly (55.19) and 100 free (50.11), all of which were B-standard times.

UIndy saw more terrific individual performances on the women's side from Marizel van Jaarsveld, who added a trio of B-cuts to the weekend. She delivered wins in the 100 breast (new personal best time and now the second-fastest time in school history of 1:01.76), 200 IM (2:02.00), and 200 fly (2:01.12). She also trailed right behind Buys with a second-place finish and another provisional mark in the 100 free at a time of 50.32.

More first-place marks for the women's squad came in the form of Krystal Caylor touching the wall at a B time of 1:52.63 in the 200 free, and also in the 400 FR featuring Buys, van Jaarsveld, Vaselli, and Caylor with a winning time of 3:25.94.

Moving over to the men's side, the Hounds corralled a stellar team performance in the relays by bringing home the top spot in three total. In the 200 FR, the quartet of Jeron Thompson, Diego Mas, Victor Antonon and Joao Silva rattled off a winning mark of 1:21.31. UIndy also saw Bartek Swiderski, Jan Zuchowicz, Silva and Antonon touch the wall in the fastest 200 MR mark of any team at 1:28.95. Finally, the 400 MR team of Thompson, Zuchowicz, Kael Yorke and Silva managed a victorious time of 3:17.93.

Individually in the pool, Liki Prema led the way with a pair of B standard wins in the 100 breast (new personal best and now the second fastest time in school history at 53.82) and 200 breast (new personal best and the new third fastest time in school history at 1:59.06). Silva was victorious in the 50 free at a B standard 20.44 mark while Andras Tiszai claimed the winning spot and a B standard of 1:48.41 in the 200 back. The 100 back was in commanding control of the Greyhounds as Swiderski won the race at 50.08 while Thompson was right behind at 50.41.

Over at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center in the diving, Jason Lenzo shined for the UIndy men's team by winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Lenzo tallied a total score of 300.10 in his 1-meter victory while his 3-meter overall total was 322.20, which sits as a new personal best for him. Other notable finishes included Casey Crawford collecting third place on the 3-meter and sixth place in the 1-meter, while Joseph Donlin notched 11th on both boards.

Alexis Lumaj was the top competitor for the Hounds in the women's diving event, notching a third-place finish on the 3-meter (229.80) and a fifth-place mark on the 1-meter (213.05). Emma Weisgerber and Sarah Kerbrat went ninth and 10th, respectively, on the 1-meter while Kerbrat went 11th and Weisgerber 12th on the 3-meter.
