KANSAS CITY, Mo. – With a 3-0 win over Rockhurst this afternoon, the No. 2-ranked University of Indianapolis men's soccer team has extended its winning streak to five matches while hitting the 10-win mark this season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy found the scoreboard first in the match in the 26th minute on a perfectly executed play.
Ewan Lynch sparked the play by nudging a pass to
Vincent Stone off a throw-in who then floated a beautiful cross to the far side of the box to
Jakob David who met the ball with his head and put it past the goalkeeper. This goal proved to have huge implications early in the match, as it allowed the Hounds to hold a lead moving into halftime.
Â
Still holding strong to a one goal advantage, the Greyhounds finally found breathing room in the 84th minute on a crucial mistake from the Hawks. On a free kick from
Michael Tselios, a Rockhurst defender went to deflect away what looked like it was going to be a shot attempt from
Kendall Allen but accidently tapped the free ball into the net for an own goal.
Â
Finally, it was top goalscorer
Alejandro Steinwascher who put the match away for good in the 89th minute. Steinwascher corralled a long kick at midfield sent by goalkeeper
Dimitrios Karousos and beat a defender in a footrace where he fired a kick into the back of the net.
