INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy wrestling program has been chosen to finish third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in the annual Preseason Coaches Poll, released Wednesday afternoon by the league.
The Greyhounds, ranked #13 nationally in the NWCA Preseason Poll, earned 38 total points, including one first-place vote. Lindenwood was chosen to top the GLVC, with 48 total points and six first-place votes. McKendree amassed 43 points and took the remaining first place vote to take second in the poll. UIndy features the reigning GLVC Freshman of the Year in
Logan Bailey. The Greyhound 149 was an All-GLVC Third Team selection a season ago, and was the NWCA's Super Region 3 Rookie of the Year.Â
In addition to Bailey, a pair of All-Americans in #4
Dawson Combest, a two-time All-GLVC First Team selection, at 157 and #5
Andrew Sams, an All-GLVC Second Team honoree last season, at 174, as well as two-time National Qualifier
Gleason Mappes at 184 return for the Hounds.
Jack Eiteljorge, a 2020 All-American and All-GLVC First Team honoree last season, is back at 165, while All-GLVC Second Team selection
Derek Blubaugh is back at 197 for UIndy.Â
The Greyhounds open their 2021-22 season Nov. 2, hosting Defiance in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center at 6 p.m. The GLVC portion of the schedule opens Jan. 13, with the Hounds on the road at Maryville in an 8 p.m. dual.
