INDIANAPOLIS - In a dominating performance on the pitch, the No. 2 University of Indianapolis men's soccer team sailed past Great Lakes Valley Conference foe William Jewell by a convincing 5-1 score Friday night at Key Stadium. The win boosts UIndy up to 7-0-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds opened the scoring in just the 12th minute of play when
Jakob David netted his first goal of the season on a perfectly executed free kick. Moments later in the 18th minute,
Cole Rainwater found the back of the net off an assist from
Eli Dulle. To cap off the first half,
Vincent Stone buried a goal of his own in the 39th minute with assists being awarded to
Caleb Mundell and
Noah Yohannes.
UIndy continued to keep its foot on the pedal in the second half as
Alejandro Steinwascher scored his sixth goal of the season off a pass from David. Despite William Jewell corralling a goal of its own in the 52nd minute, the Greyhounds finished the match off strong with
Owen Atkison coming off the bench and netting number five for the No. 2-ranked team.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-It was another favorably uneven game on offense for UIndy, who out-shot the Cardinals by 12.
-There was just 19 fouls called in the match, with the Greyhounds having a game-high 12.
-Despite giving up a goal, the Hounds defense was strong on the stat sheet as neither goalkeepers
Dimitrios Karousos or
Drew Mueller were forced to make a save.
