WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – In their second exhibition game of the week, the University of Indianapolis men's basketball team went toe-to-toe with No. 7 Purdue University on Thursday night. The Hounds trailed by eight at the half and eventually fell 86-64 inside historic Mackey Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds were unfazed off the bat, scoring the first three baskets of the game. Cory Miller notched a lay up before back-to-back three's from Josiah Tynes and Jakobie Robinson. The Boilermakers responded with a lay up before Ben Nicoson put back a three to extend UIndy's lead to 11-2.
UIndy led for the first 6:48 of the game before a quick run from Purdue. Tynes ended a nearly four minute scoring drought for the Hounds, tallying a lay up and pulling the Hounds back within one.
At the 11:24 mark Robinson found Kendrick Tchoua down low for a basket that put the Hounds back on top at 16-15. Minutes later Tynes connected with Cory Miller Jr. for a lay up that gave UIndy a 20-17 midway thru the first.
The Boilermakers jumped out to a 15-point lead five minutes into the second half and never looked back. UIndy fought hard til the end, trailing by ten with 7:30 remaining but a quick three from the Boilermakers halted UIndy's momentum. Purdue shot 57.1% from the floor in the second half en route to the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- For the second straight game Cory Miller Jr. led the Hounds in scoring, tonight with 14 points. Miller also paced the Hounds with five assists.
- Jakobie Robinson flirted with his first double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds, all of which were defensive. Robinson tallied a team-best three steals and recorded the lone block for the Hounds.
- UIndy drastically cut back their turnovers on Thursday, committing just 10 compared to Monday's 19.
