OKLAHOMA CITY - It was a successful day for the Hounds at the ITA DII Indoor Championship, as they took down the No. 10 Flagler College Saints in a quarterfinal matchup. The Hounds came out of the match with a 4-1 victory leading them into the semifinals. The three-day, eight team event is being held at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
For doubles play went in favor of the Saints, who clinched the point with wins in the No. 3 and No. 1 slots. Sophomore
Nikolaj Talimaa and freshman
Pedro Franca fell first in a 6-1 match before the senior pair of
Renato Lima and
Agustin Gascia fell, 6-2. Sophomores
Tom Zeuch and
Jason Gerweck did not finish their match.
The script was flipped in singles, as it was all Hounds for the rest of the morning. Four straight match wins followed to secure the victory. The freshman
Yoann Viel struck first with a straight -sets win 6-3, 6-3. in two straight 6-3 sets. Singles continued with Gascia picking up another win in two sets, with the first one having good back and forth with Gascia taking a 6-4 win. But the second set was all Gasica, as he swept all the games to win 6-0.
Zeuch then took the third singles match of the morning in another two-set contest, taking the victory 7-6, 6-2. And for the deciding match between the Hounds and the Saints, it came down to Gerweck in the No. 6 singles spot. He jumped out early in the match with a quick 6-2 set win. The second set was a closer contest but the set victory and the match victory landed in the hands of Gerweck.
The last two matches were left unfinished. Lima at No. 1 singles stopped in the third set and Talimaa in the No. 4 singles spot was still the second.

The Hounds are moving on toward the semifinal round of the ITA DII Indoor Championships to face the No. 3 team in the nation, University of West Florida on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. ET.
