TIFFIN, Ohio- Two University of Indianapolis Greyhounds punched their tickets to the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championships Saturday, with another two waiting on wildcard allocations to determine their fate in qualifying for the NCAA meet.

Gleason Mappes await the final rubber stamp confirmation of their wildcard allocations coming Monday to take the trip to St. Louis.
Combest will make his second trip to Nationals at 157. Currently ranked #2, Combest (10-2) earned his spot at the NCAA meet via a second place finish at the Regional. The redshirt sophomore and two-seed in the bracket opened the tournament with an 8-0 major decision over Ashland's Nick Carbone, and followed with a semifinal win, 4-3 in TB-1 over West Liberty's Christian Rivera.Â
Following a 6-1 loss to top-ranked James Wimer of Findlay, Combest defended his second-place finish with a 6-3 win over Lake Erie's Brandon Tenney in the true-second match.
Sams qualified for Nationals for the first time Saturday, also taking second. The Greyhound 174 started his day with a 14-1 major decision in the quarterfinals oer Wheeling's Deshawn Mercadel, and then earned his spot in the bracket final with a 12-3 win over Ty McGeary of West Liberty.Â
The redshirt junior fell 6-2 in the 174 championship match to Daniel Beemer, but still qualified with his runner-up finish.
Bailey will make his first trip to Nationals as a wildcard selection at 149 by the Super Region 3 coaches. A true freshman, Bailey battled back from a quarterfinal loss to Lake Erie's Sean O'Hearon to win four straight matches.Â
In his first consolation match, Bailey pinned Ohio Valley's Kyle Vanderlaan in just 36 seconds. He then took a major decision win, 9-1, over Collin Adkins of Tiffin and won his consolation semifinal 12-8 over Alec Cook of West Liberty. Bailey then won his third-place match 6-3 over Davenport's Jordan Ringler to put himself in a position to be nominated by the coaches for one of the region's five wildcard spots.Â
Mappes, now a two-time qualifier, was also a wildcard selection. The Greyhound junior went 3-2 on the day at 184, starting with a 4-3 quarterfinal victory over Jackson Nevadomski. After a loss to #2 Connor Craig in the semis, Mappes took back-to-back wins over Daniel Rosales of Findlay in the conso semis and Tylor Orrison in the third place match. Mappes fell to #3 Aiden Pasiuk in the true-second match, but was voted into the NCAA field.

Jack Eiteljorge placed fourth at the Super Regional for the Hounds, as #12 UIndy finished fourth as a team. No. 8 West Liberty topped the team race, with #7 Ashland and Lake Erie coming in second and third.Â
Combest, Sams, Mappes and Bailey now look to the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championships in St. Louis March 12-13. Brackets for the event will come out next week.Â
