#10 Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Slate with Win Over Lancers

INDIANAPOLIS No. 10-ranked UIndy men's tennis opened its spring season against Grace College, the NAIA 20th-ranked team, in the UIndy Tennis Center on Wednesday evening. The Greyhounds came away with the sweep versus Lancers, 7-0.

The Hounds kicked it off at 5 p.m. with doubles play, as all three matchups were contested simultaneously. UIndy secured the point by winning two of the three doubles matchups, as Jason Gerweck and Tom Zeuch earned a 6-3 victory and Nikolaj Talimaa and Agustin Gascia took the win over their opponent, 6-4.

The Greyhounds then went on to roll through singles action, not dropping a even one match. Gascia wrapped up first, downing Fabricio Galvan in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. He was followed by Dominik Koenig who also made short work of his foe, topping Ramiro Candia 6-1, 6-1.

The Hounds continued to sweep matches with Tom Zeuch taking a big win over Lancers junior Max Rozas 6-3, 6-0.

A close three-set match followed between Yoann Viel and Facudo Paredes, which saw Viel take the first set 6-4 before dropping the second to Paredes 6-3, leading to a tie breaker. Viel walked away with a lengthy 10-6 win in the final set, scoring another team point for the Hounds.

As the action continued, a thriller emerged between Talimaa and David Sandi. Taliman dropped the first set but managed to fire back with wins of 6-2 and finally 10-3 win to put it on ice.

And to wrap up the day for the mid-week matchup, Gerweck fought Grace's Paule Popvic in a close second set to wrap up the evening. After Gerweck took a confident first set win, 6-3, the two went back-and-forth in the second set before Gerweck locked up the victory by narrowly avoiding a tiebreaker, 7-6.
