INDIANAPOLIS – Fresh off earning the No. 4 spot in the latest
ITA DII rankings, the UIndy women's tennis team kicked off its spring schedule hot with a big win against the Division I IUPUI Jaguars where the Greyhounds came out on top 6-1.
Â
The action started with doubles with the Hounds taking all three matches to earn the point. The power of the Greyhounds overwhelmed the visitors as
Alina Kislitskaya and her partner
Kristina Lagoda made short work winning 6-1. They were followed by sophomore
Nikol Alekseeva and junior
Anna Novikova as they took down their opponents, 6-3, while sophomores
Maria Solnyshkina and
Sofia Sharonova out-performed their crosstown opponents swiftly, winning 6-1.
Â
The Hounds continued to heat up with No. 1 singles being a lopsided affair as Alekseeva picked up her second win of the day, confidently taking both sets by a score of 6-0. Following was Novikova who took down Christina Stankovich in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 to get the Hounds their third point of the day.
Â
More points came in for the Hounds when Russia-product Sharonova faced off with Diya Matta for the Jaguars. Sharonova surpassed her opponent in just two sets as well, picking up the victory 6-2, 6-1.
Â
The Hounds kept it rolling in the next two matches, as Kislitskaya and Lagoda both picked up points. Kislitskaya bested Gabrielle Ochalik in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, and Lagoda followed suit with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Â
And to wrap up the afternoon the Jaguars were able to take their only point off the Hounds in a tight-as-nails match between Solnyskina and Sarah Lounsbury, with the latter eventually winning the super tiebreak 10-8.
