INDIANAPOLIS- The University of Indianapolis wrestling team comes in at #T10 in the latest edition of the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division II Coaches Rankings, released Friday morning by the Association.
Behind three wrestlers in the top 6 at 157, 165, and 174, the Greyhounds totaled 38 points in the team race and held onto their Top 10 ranking. UIndy was in a tie for the #7 spot in the last edition of the poll, but saw two wrestlers fall out of their respective Top 12s in the newest ranking.
Dawson Combest headlines the UIndy trio, moving up from #4 to #2 at 157, while
Jack Eiteljorge held his #6 ranking at 165.
Andrew Sams, by virtue of an upset win over McKendree's then-#2 Josh Jones last weekend, moved from #7 to #3 at 174.
St. Cloud State held onto the #1 spot in the team ranking, amassing an even 100 points in topping the poll. Nebraska-Kearney stayed at #2 with 83 points, with GLVC-foe Lindenwood moving into the #3 spot with 76 points. Gannon (65 pts.) and McKendree (59 pts.) round out the new Top 5. Central Oklahoma, Mercyhurst, Ashland, and Adams State are in spots six-nine, with the Greyhounds and Minnesota State sharing the #10 spot.
The Great Lakes Valley Conference leads the rankings with five teams in the Top 25 and 19 total ranked wrestlers, including three #1s. UIndy's region, Super Region 3, has six teams in the Top 25 and 17 total ranked wrestlers.
The NCAA Division II Coaches Rankings are voted on and compiled by two head coaches from each of the six Super Regions. Following this edition of the poll, one more regular season ranking will be published leading up to the 2021 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships.
The Greyhounds will close out their regular season with a schedule alteration, with UIndy heading to Lindenwood Saturday instead of previously scheduled Maryville. UIndy will face off with #3 Lindenwood in a single dual on the day at 12 p.m. EST. All action can be followed live on the GLVC Sports Network.
