ST. LOUIS- A pair of Greyhounds earned All-American honors as the 2021 NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championships came to a close Saturday.
Dawson Combest came away with a fourth place finish at 157, while
Andrew Sams earned a fifth place finish at 174.
As a team, UIndy finished 15th with 20.5 total points. St. Cloud State earned its fifth national title in six years with 107 total points, with Nebraska-Kearney, Lindenwood, West Liberty and McKendree rounding out the top five.
Combest closed out his redshirt sophomore season at 12-4, earning his second All-American honor in as many seasons. The Greyhound 157 notched the 60th All-American finish in UIndy Wrestling history with his fourth place honors at this year's championships, after earning NWCA All-American honors as the seven-seed entering last year's canceled Nationals. Combest is the 17th Greyhound in program history to be a multiple-time All-American.
Sams finished his first season in a Greyhound singlet 12-3, earning his first career All-American honor. He becomes the 39th individual to All-American in UIndy Wrestling history, and put up the 61st All-American performance in program history. The redshirt junior finished fifth at 174, the first Greyhound 174 to All-American since Mike Jackson's runner-up finish in 2007.
