ST. CHARLES, Mo. - After the No. 10 UIndy men's lacrosse team (2-1, 2-1 GLVC) took down a top-15 matchup in Rockhurst last week, the Greyhounds faced off in a second-consecutive ranked contest against the No. 15 Lindenwood Lions (4-1, 4-1) on Saturday afternoon out west. The Hounds couldn't get the Lions off their rhythm on offense, taking their first loss of the season on a 16-9 final score.
INS & OUTS
After keeping the game competitive in the first quarter with only a two-goal margin, the Greyhounds would only knock three shots in compared to Lindenwood's eight in the middle periods to stay behind the rest of the way. Wyatt Auyer followed up an impressive performance last week with giving the Hounds excellent looks in the goal, attempting a team-high five shots on goal that converted into a pair of goals. Jordan McKenzie was able to be.a bright spot in getting the offense rolling, winning 10 of the 16 face-offs the veteran was placed in without committing a single turnover.
The Lions piled on the attempts throughout the game, where they racked up at least 10 shots or more in the first three quarters, their final stat-line showing 44 shots. Austin Barnett would have a second-straight game of totaling 10 or more goals, but the bittersweet number of 11 saves was slashed by the Lions' 16 goals. The only instance of back-to-back goals from the Greyhounds came in the final five minutes of action, where Auyer and Mike Doyle nailed shots 37 seconds apart. That pair of goals would be the final ones of the game though, the Hounds receiving their first loss of the young season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Lions' shot on goal percentage of 61.4 percent on Saturday is the highest total the Greyhounds have faced this season.
- Doyle and Ian Edwards both netted their first goal of the season for the Hounds.
- Drew Billig's two assists now puts him at a team-leading seven with only two games to his credit.
