Power Surge Hightlights Mid-Week Sweep

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 13 UIndy softball team (13-2) hit a combined nine extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs from senior Taylor Danielson, in a sweep of visiting Kentucky Wesleyan Tuesday afternoon. Danielson cleared the Baumgartner Field fences with a three-run homer in both ends of the doubleheader, helping the Greyhounds out-score the Panthers 18-1 on the day.

GAME 1 | UIndy 6, KWC 1
After two-and-a-half scoreless innings, Danielson broke the seal with a towering three-run shot to deep center. She was later part of another three-run inning, earning her fourth ribbie of the game with a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the sixth.

Also in the sixth, Kamrie Foster had a single and later alertly scored on a wild pitch, while her sister Haylie foster plated Gianni Iannantone with an RBI knock through the left side.

Senior Hallie Waters (7-1) earned the win in the circle, striking out eight and allowing one run and four hits in six-plus innings. H. Foster came on to get the final three outs to close the game.

GAME 2 | UIndy 12, Lewis 0 (5 innings)
Reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Week Kenzee Smith (5-0) continued her stellar rookie campaign by spinning her second straight one-hitter. The Indy native fanned seven batters in five innings of work, with a second-inning single proving her only obstacle for a perfect game.

Smith has not allowed an earned run in three consecutive starts – all complete-game wins.

Offensively, the fireworks started early, as Brooke Montgomery and K. Foster led off the game with a double and a triple, respectively. A two-run bomb by Emily O'Connor also came in the first inning, setting a tone for the remainder of the day.

The fourth frame featured a double from Hanna Burris and another by Montgomery, as well as Danielson's second three-run blast. Smith got in on the act as well in the fourth with a two-out, bases-loaded double.

FUN FACT
Danielson has homered in fourth consecutive games and five of the last seven. She now has 16 home runs for her career, good for 11th in the UIndy annals.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will remain home this weekend, hosting Illinois Springfield on Saturday and Quincy Sunday.
