#6 Greyhounds Hot Start Surges Past Hawks

INDIANAPOLIS - After a perfect stretch of contests last week to ride a three-game win streak, the No. 6 UIndy men's soccer team (7-0-1, 7-0-1 GLVC) hosted the visiting Rockhurst Hawks (1-5-3, 1-5-3) at Key Stadium on Friday night to kick off another weekend of games. The Greyhounds' two goals in the first half propelled them past the Hawks, ending with their third shutout in a row on a final score of 3-0.

INS & OUTS
Not only did the Hounds pound the ball twice in the back of the net in the second half, but UIndy held down defensively in one of their most impressive performances in a single half so far this season. After the halfway point, the Greyhounds didn't allow Rockhurst to even attempt to score, the Hawks putting up zero shots against Hounds' defense. The Greyhounds put up 15 shots of their own in the second half against Rockhurst, where two student-athletes found their mark and scored their first's of the season. Makel Rasheed was first at the 13' mark, the sophomore touching a beautiful pass from Michael Tselios. The next Hound to find their mark was Bryan Moreira, collecting a feed from Cole Rainwater, the goal in the lower right of the net setting the Hounds up with a multiple-goal lead.

The Hounds didn't lay off in the second half, the team laid 11 shots on the Hawks in the second portion of the contest. Rainwater found a score of his own from Jakub Olczyk, the senior back getting his second assist on the season in the shootout for the Greyhounds. After only letting Rockhurst shoot five times in the second half, goalkeeper Dimitrious Karousos only needing one save for the shutout due to the Greyhounds' lockdown defense.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Greyhounds' 7-0-1 start is their best program start in the 21st century.
- Rasheed's first career goal comes off of his first career defensive GLVC Player of the Week.
- UIndy has now shot nine shots on goal in two consecutive contests, both season-highs.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will have a couple days before hosting their next opponent in Southwest Baptist. The game will take place at Key Stadium on Sunday, March 28, kicking off at 2:30 p.m.
