#4 Hounds Continue Dominance With 7-0 Win Over Warriors

INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 4-ranked and recently-crowned ITA National Team Champion UIndy women's tennis team continued its impressive season Friday with a sweep of 22nd-ranked Wayne State. The final score marked the second 7-0 win for the Greyhounds this season, with both coming against ranked region opponents (No. 19 Grand Valley on Feb. 6).

The Hounds launched into action with doubles, wrapping up first with the No. 1 pair of Nikol Alekseeva and Anna Novikova taking their match in a perfect 6-0 start to the afternoon. Following them was junior Maria Solnyshkina and sophomore Sofia Sharonova, who kept the fire burning with a 6-1 win to lock down the doubles point. Then to wrap up doubles it was the senior Kristina Lagoda alongside junior Anna Valiaeva, who mimicked the match before them finishing 6-1.

Singles was another impressive showing for the Greyhounds, as only one set was dropped across all six singles matches. Alekseeva continued to showcase her skill within the No. 1 spot, wrapping up in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Solnyshkina then followed with a dominant performance, taking her opponent down without losing a game.

Novikova in the No. 2 singles spot then kept things rolling with a solid first set finishing 6-0 and followed up with a 6-1 win to ice the match and secure the Hounds victory over the Warriors of Wayne State. Sharonova followed suit, winning 6-2, 6-0. Lagoda made short work of her Warrior opponent, wrapping up in two sets 6-2, 6-1.

For the final match of the day, it was the freshman Sahra Bouchaala out of France making her spring debut. It was a tight three-set match as she dropped the first set 7-6 but then fired back with a 6-3 win to even the set score. Then it came down to set three in a game of endurance which saw Bouchaala come out on top 10-7 to secure the Hounds sweep of the Warriors.
