#1 Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Saints on Senior Day

INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 1 UIndy women's lacrosse team (10-0, 4-0 GLVC) celebrated eight senior student-athletes on Friday night, where they took on the Maryville Saints (1-7, 1-3) on campus at Key Stadium. The Greyhounds had much to rejoice about throughout the game, completing their first shutout of the season on a 27-0 final score. Senior Grace Gunneson headed the team with seven points in the contest, the Rockhord, Mich., native nailed five shots in the back of the net along with a pair of assists for her teammates.

INS & OUTS
Abigail Lagos came out strong in the contest for the Hounds, the senior nailed the first three goals of the game in the first two minutes to earn her ninth hat trick of the season. Gunneson took charge after, earning all six of her goals in a span of less than 10 minutes to bring the Greyhounds to a double-digit lead. UIndy was able to get six different student-athletes to score in the second half of the contest, where Kaitlyn Kopansky earned a pair of scores and Ava Wetzel collected her first point as a Hound, the freshman slamming the final goal of the contest. Audrey Moran was able to step in for the entire second half and was able to shut out the Saints with a pair of saves, the redshirt freshman finishing the night with her second shutout performance of the season.

Peyton Romig was on her A-game (again) on Friday night against Maryville, collecting her second game this season of 20 or more draw controls with an even 20 on Senior Night. Jess Soenen was able to turn in a hat trick performance off of only four shot attempts, the junior scoring two-straight goals in the first half of action. Freshman Joey Fowler was able to collect her first multi-point game this season, the Upper Arlington, Ohio native finding the net twice in a two-minute span against the Saints. Senior Riley McClure was able to lead the dominant defense in her team-leading three caused turnovers against Maryville, even earning four draw controls in the Hounds' win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Greyhounds' first shutout this season came off of a season high in allowing shots (four) and shots on goal (three).
- UIndy had 14 student-athletes register at least one point in Friday night's win.
- Despite the Hounds' plethora of time on offense, the team tied a season-low in turnovers against the Saints, only giving them the ball seven times.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach James Delaney on celebrating the Hounds' seniors …

"This is a special day for me, this being the group that came in when I did and laid the foundation for this program to be what it is today. Their legacy will last a lifetime for what they have done, but the exciting thing is that we are still able to write what we hope to be a story-book ending for their careers."

Senior Grace Gunneson on the team's biggest piece in the development of the dynasty …

"We have challenged each other everyday at practice to continuously improve and be the best version of ourselves. We know that we can be anyone at our best, we work hard so we can be the last team standing in May."

UP NEXT
UIndy will take on Quincy later this weekend, hosting the Hawks for a Sunday contest at Key Stadium. That game on April 18 will kick off at 12 p.m.
