KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Two weeks since their last contest, the No. 10 UIndy men's lacrosse team (7-2, 7-2 GLVC) traveled out west to take on a rematch against the Rockhurst Hawks (7-3, 7-3) on Saturday afternoon. Despite the Greyhounds winning their first matchup against Rockhurst over a month ago, the Hawks bested the Hounds the second time around on a final score of 9-5.
INS & OUTS
The game was run on two opposite halves of play; the first being a pair of impressive defensive performances on both sides. After the first half of action, the contest had only seen two goals in the first 30 minutes, Rockhurst owning both of them with a goal in each quarter. Austin Barnett had five saves against the high-powered Hawk offense, the senior faced 22 shots in the first half of the contest alone. The Hounds were able to pound the ball at the net in the first half despite not finding a score of their own, the Greyhounds tossed 18 shots during the first segment of the contest.
The second half contained 12 goals between the two teams, UIndy kicking off the second half with two unanswered goals to tie back up the game from Kansai Garey and Matt Schoeneck. Schoeneck would eventually knock in a second goal from a man-up situation in the final minute of the third quarter, but a last-second score for the Hawks but the game back to a two-goal deficit. The Greyhounds couldn't contain Rockhurst in the final quarter of action in the contest, giving up three goals in comparison to UIndy's one.
