No. 5 Hounds Take Down Hawks

INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 5 Universty of Indianapolis softball team picked up a pair of GLVC wins on Saturday with a sweep of visiting Rockhurst University.  A 5-0 and 8-2 win move the Hounds to 29-2 on the year and a perfect 18-0 in GLVC play.  The Hounds bats were alive, smacking five home runs on the day.

Game 1: RU 0 – UIndy 5
The Hounds scored all of their runs on home runs.  Emily O'Connor started things off with a three run home run in the third.  Taylor Danielson and Kamrie Foster followed suit in the fourth and fifth respectively.

Hallie Waters improved to 15-1 in the circle with a complete game shut out.  The senior struck out 10 for the fifth time this season while holding the Hawks to four hits.

Game 2: RU 2 – UIndy 8
UIndy took a 4-0 lead in game two with a pair of runs in both the third and fourth inning.  Danielson drove in one run before Haylie Foster recorded a sacrifice fly.  Gianni Iannantone kept the run train rolling with a sacrifice fly in the fourth before Lexy Rees laced a single through the left side, scoring Foster.

The Hawks plated a pair of runs in the sixth inning with a two-run double.  It broke a 44-inning scoreless streak for the Hounds' opponents.

A pair of home runs in the bottom of the sixth provided some insurance runs for the Hounds.  Iannantone and Danielson both hit two-run home runs to extend UIndy's lead to 8-2.

Kenzee Smith moves to 13-0 on the year with a complete game shut out.  The reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Week struck out nine while allowing two runs off of seven hits.
