AKRON, Ohio – The UIndy women's golf team (296-302) capped its 2020-21 regular season with its third consecutive win, topped the Division I-hosted Akron Invitational, held at Portage Country Club in Akron, Ohio Friday and Saturday. Junior
Cailyn Henderson led the Greyhounds by earning her second individual medal of the season, one for four Hounds in the top eight.
Â
"It's always good to win but it really shows us how much work we need before the postseason," confessed head coach Brent Nicoson. "Cailyn was solid this week and that should help her confidence moving forward, and Cathi Graf was very solid over the last 27 holes of this event and I'm really happy to see that as well.
Â
"It was cold, wet, windy and a long golf course that we competed on this week, and it exposed some weaknesses that we need to address in practice this coming week."
Â
Henderson finished at +3, holding off Kent State's Cameron Neilson to win the individual medal by a single stroke. She was also followed closely by
Catharina Graf (76-72), who as an individual competitor, notched a collegiate best with a fourth-place finish.
Â
Pilar Echeverria shot 75-75 to finish at +8 at take seventh. Junior
Elyse Stasil (74-77) followed at T-8,
Hunter Nugent (74-78) share 11th and
Anna Kramer (76-79) rounded out the team scores at T-16.
Â
Katelyn Skinner also made the trip as an individual, carding scores of 81-74 to tie for 16th.
