GAME 1 | UIndy 7, USI 0
After a scoreless first two innings, the Hounds plated two runs in the top of the third. Three straight singles loaded the bases with one out for
Gianni Iannantone. The senior laid down a single in right field, allowing
Brooke Montgomery and
Sydnie Foster to score and put UIndy ahead 2-0.
Â
Southern Indiana threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth. Two runners were in scoring position with two outs but
Hallie Waters forced a groundout to end the threat.
Â
The Hounds broke open the scoring in the top of the seventh with five runs off of four hits. Montgomery, Iannantone,
Emily O'Connor and
Lexy Rees each drove in a run. Iannantone scored the final run for the Hounds on a wild pitch.
Â
Waters threw a complete game shutout for her 10th win of the season. The senior fanned 11 while holding the Screaming Eagles to six hits and just one walk. Waters currently has a 13-inning scoreless streak.
Â
GAME 2 | UIndy 2, USI 1
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, senior
Haylie Foster yanked a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence to knot the score at 1-1. The blast marked the second home run for Foster of the season.
Â
Her twin sister Sydnie would later provide the game winner in the sixth. With the go-ahead run at third, the Plainfield, Ind., product deposited a bloop single into shallow left to score
Emma Rutan and put the Hounds up for good. Rutan entered the game as a pinch runner earlier in the frame, with the run good for her first as a collegian.
Â
In the circle, freshman
Kenzee Smith kept her perfect pitching record intact, moving to 8-0 on the year after striking out eight and walking only one in the complete-game performance.
