EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The No. 5 team in the nation capped off their regular season with a bang, sweeping in-state rival Southern Indiana, 7-0. The Greyhounds finished the regular season 14-2, with their only two losses of the season coming from top-10 teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds found continued success in doubles today as they would sweep all three matches. Junior Maxamillian Witthaus and senior Renato Lima won their match first 6-2. Junior Tom Zeuch and freshman Yoanna Viel continued the tear of a season the pair have been having with another win, 6-4. Finally, sophomore Nikolaj Talimaa and freshman Pedro Franca wrapped up their match 6-3.
Singles action saw two matches end in 6-0, 6-0 victories for the Hounds. Firstly, the No. 35-ranked singles player Zeuch only dropped one game across two sets to win 6-1, 6-0. His doubles partner Viel followed suit with a straight sets win of his own 6-3, 6-1.
The No. 27-singles player in the country Lima, after a rough first set seeing him lose 4-6, would then go onto drop only one game in the next two 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Jason Gerweck in the No. 6 slot wrapped up next for one of the Hounds 6-0, 6-0. Talimaa would match that with his own 6-0, 6-0 win. Finally, sophomore Dominik Koenig would keep the straight-sets trend going, winning in two 6-4 sets.
