ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The top-seeded UIndy men's tennis team kicked off their
GLVC Championship Tournament run Friday with a sweep of the Rockhurst Hawks. The No. 5 team in the country, fresh off of several All-GLVC awards, downed the West Division's four seed, 4-0, all in straight sets.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
No. 1 and No. 3 was the ticket to success for the Hounds in doubles. GLVC Freshman of the Year
Tom Zeuch and partner
Yoann Viel, who have been dominant in the second half of the season together, kept that fire today with a 6-1 win. Then the young guns in
Nikolaj Talimaa and
Pedro Franca ended doubles with a 6-3 victory securing the point. The veteran pair of
Renato Lima and
Maximilian Witthaus did not finish their match.Â
Youth would be the story for singles as well, as sophomores
Jason Gerweck and Talimaa would jump all over their Hawks rivals before Lima landed the finishing blow. Talimaa struck first, winning his match 6-1, 6-0. Gerweck followed, delivering a straight set "W" 6-1, 6-2. Finally to finish out the afternoon for the Hounds, the experience of Lima would reap a 6-2, 6-1 victoru to move the team onto the conference semifinals.Â
Zeuch, Viel and
Dominik Koenig did not finish their matches.Â
UP NEXT
