SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The No. 5 UIndy softball team (33-2, 21-1 GLVC) had its impressive winning streak snapped at Drury University Saturday afternoon. With a 3-2 extra-inning win in game one, the Greyhounds upped its streak to 25 – its longest since 2016 – but a slim 1-0 defeat in the capper marked to team's first defeat more than five weeks as well as its first loss in conference play.
GAME ONE - UINDY 3 DRU 2
Kenzee Smith earned her 15th straight win in the circle of the season, after taking over to finish the game from
Hallie Waters who started for the Hounds. Waters posted eight strikeouts and one walk in 6.0 innings, while Waters gave up only one hit in 3.0 innings.Â
Lexy Rees posted a 2 RBI double to right field to kick off the offense for the Greyhounds. While
Kamrie Foster added the game winning RBI with a single in the ninth.Â
The Panthers was led by catcher Gracie King who posted one hit, a RBI, and two assists.Â
Haylee VanDevent (6-5) took the loss for the Panthers in striking out none and walking one in 9.0 inning pitched.Â
GAME TWO - DRU 1 UINDY 0
After a scoreless seven innings, a panther RBI double put Hounds down for their first loss in the conference.Â
The Hounds posted four hits during the matchup, leaving six on base. While Drury posted nine and left 10 on base. Â
Smith took her first loss on the season, striking out five and walking three in 6.2 inning pitched.Â
