ROMEOVILLE, Ill - It has been over a month since the UIndy men's tennis team has faced a GLVC opponent, but that has changed with a trip to Romeoville, Ill., Saturday. The fifth-ranked Greyhounds earned a 6-1 win against the Lewis University Flyers (5-5), picking up their second conference win and their eighth win on the season overall bringing them to 8-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a three-hour drive, the Hounds came out firing on all cylinders with a 2-1 win in doubles to secure the point. Sophomore Nikolaj Talimaa and freshman Pedro Franca captured the first win for the Hounds, winning 6-3. No. 1 singles with seniors Agustin Gascia and Renato Lima came down to the wire, with the Flyers duo edging out the Hounds, 7-6. But the Hounds would find redemption in the pair of sophomore Tom Zeuch and freshman Yoann Viel, as they would take the doubles point with a 6-2 victory.
The Greyhounds would rack up wins in the singles matches as well, but not before dropping the No. 1 match as Lima fell in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 0-6. The Hounds would then go on to sweep the rest of the matches for the afternoon, starting with Zeuch out of the No. 2 spot winning in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Things continued as planned from there, with Talimaa finishing next in the No. 3 spot, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. He would be followed by sophomore Dominik Koenig, who after dropping the first set would fight back and eventually win the super tiebreaker against his Flyer rival 2-6, 6-2, 10-7. Sophomore Jason Gerweck would replicate Talimaa's success, also winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.
And in his season debut, junior Maximilian Witthaus would conclude the evening with a 6-3, 6-0 win.
