LEBANON, Ill. - Coming into the 2021 GLVC Women's Lacrosse Tournament as the No. 2 seed, the UIndy women's lacrosse team (13-1, 6-1 GLVC) took on the No. 3 seed McKendree Bearcats (10-4, 5-2) in one of the tournament's semifinal games on Friday night. The 2021 GLVC Midfielder of the Year, Peyton Romig, led the Hounds' charge with a season-high eight points in the Greyhounds dominant 19-6 victory.
INS & OUTS
It didn't take long for Division II's best scoring team to rack in five goals, UIndy totaling the early five-goal lead in only four minutes and forty seconds of game time. Grace Gunneson scored a pair goals during that time span, the Hounds tallying unassisted scores on four of the five. The Greyhounds sunk 15 shots in the back of the net in the first half alone, totaling 25 attempts at the net in the contest's first 30 minutes. Sophomore Quinn Malcom netted her fourth hat trick of the season at the halfway point, Marin Felsoci adding a pair of her own to boost the Hounds' 15-4 lead on the Bearcats.
The second half of the contest didn't see as much action as the first, the two programs only totaling six goals overall as the running clock continued.
Cassidy King continued the first half of the back 30 minutes as the Hounds' goal keeper, sealing eight saves against McKendree before redshirt freshman
Audrey Moran collected three saves of her own, the third time this season the Naperville, Ill., native racked up a trio of saves in a single game. Romig would led UIndy in several statistical categories, tossing a season-high five assists to go along with her team-leading four ground balls and 14 draw controls. Four Greyhounds would end the Friday-night contest with a hat trick, Gunneson,
Sarah Klein, Romig and Malcolm all pushing the team to a 28-point performance.
